River Parana Draft Forecast:
Basis INA Report of July 08th and Depth Report of July 10th
River level is descending. Nevertheless, the forecast is that water levels will not be as low as during 2021.
Gas pipeline update:
The tender for laying down the first stage of the pipeline from Vaca Muerta (Northern Patagonia) to the central area of the Province of Buenos Aires is now in progress. The initial tender for the provision of the steel pipes was awarded to SIAT (a Techint Company). This tender now is for the construction (laying down) of the pipeline proper. The tendering process has been delayed by in-fighting in the Government and by financing complications. It is now moving ahead. As this develops we will keep you posted.
Grains and Markets:
85 per cent of the wheat area sowing is declared completed according to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange. The area has been reduced by extreme dry conditions.
53 per cent of the maize harvest has been completed. The total tonnage to be harvested is 49 million tons, in line with initial forecasts.
62 per cent of the sorghum harvest is completed. Total harvest is still estimated to be 3.5 million tons.
Truck Owner’s and diesel fuel shortage:
Local disquiet remains regarding the diesel oil supply and delays of cargo arrival at loading ports. A renewal of the protest is being rumored.
Biodiesel production:
Provincial governments (Cordoba and Santa Fé) are encouraging the installation of biodiesel production in order to cover shortage of diesel fossil fuel. These are smaller scale refineries that would supply local markets and demand. There has been strong pressure from Oil majors to reduce the biodiesel cut proportion of local fuels. The initial authorized proportion was 10 per cent and they want to reduce this to 5 per cent and later to 3 per cent. The biodiesel lobby is pressuring via provincial governments to revert this. An increase in production facilities will also help export capacity.
