May 06th – Exports

Exports

In view of the ongoing developing situation and different communications and instructions being issued by Sanitary Authorities of the Argentine Government we have chosen to send a consolidated daily report at the closing of working hours with an update of the day’s news.

National Holiday: Monday, May 25th, May Revolution.

Covid-19 National Quarantine:
The National Quarantine will remain in force until May 10th.

Exports from Argentina: Overall exports from Argentina were down by 15 per cent during March 2020, measured month on month, compared to March 2019. This is attributed to two main factors. Firstly the very strong slowdown caused by the Corona Virus Covid-19 and it’s social distancing requirements which slowed the first levels of the logistical road transportation. Another reason is the drop in the maximum sailing draft allowed for the River Parana which caused a fall in volume of the cargo being shipped.

Gas Oil and other liquid cargoes: Imports that have arrived are being discharged at a very slow rate. This is principally due to lack of storage on shore. An alternative is to store on river barges, but they are also in short supply. Apart from the demand for storage the low level on the River Parana has increased the amount of barges needed to carry the same amount of cargo on the River, and quite a few barges have been “trapped” in shallow areas and cannot complete their voyages to discharge.

Rosario: TPR, Puerto Nuevo South. The mv TENRO MARU which loaded iron ore at this berth was found to be firmly aground upon load completion last night, May 05th. At the moment there is an evaluation process being undertaken to see how to solve the vessel’s situation.

San Nicolas: The dredger, DASA I, that is cleaning the New Port access canal has indicated that the first soundings will be available as from May 10th. Great expectation is placed on the overall result of the dredger’s work.

Necochea: The port closed May 05th, at 0900 hours due to strong wind and swell. Entrance bar will be surveyed tomorrow morning.

Will keep you posted.
