Export Licenses
In view of the ongoing developing situation and different communications and instructions being issued by Sanitary Authorities of the Argentine Government we have chosen to send a consolidated daily report at the closing of working hours with an update of the day’s news.
-National Holidays: Friday, May 01st 2020, Labor day. Next, Monday May 25th, May Revolution.
-Covid-19 National Quarantine: The National Quarantine, with severe restrictions on people’s movements is to remain in force until May 10th. Some smaller cities are making circulation restrictions a little lighter. Large cities, Buenos Aires, Rosario, Santa Fé, Cordoba and Mendoza, amongst others are maintaining restrictions as before.
-Export licenses: Today, April 29th, export licenses have been granted for 230 thousand tons of maize, 135,000 tons of soyameal, and 25,000 tons of soyaoil.
-River Parana dredging: The dredger DASA I continues working at San Nicolas. Between 15 and 25 days working time expected. Again, the port remains unobstructed. The IBN BATTUTA continues dredging on the Mitre Canal opening twice a day at high tide to allow vessel’s passage for about three hours. This is now expected to continue until mid June.
-Gasoil inbound: For the last fifteen years Argentina has been importing gasoil to supplement or replace the gas used to generate electricity. This is because during cold weather, commencing at this time of the year, the gas is used for home heating and is was replaced by gasoil for the power generation units. The cold weather has not yet started. Nevertheless the tankers (Panamax) that import and are lightered at Zone Alpha are beginning to arrive. The lightering tankers distribute the gasoil to the various power stations. The weather is still near 18/20 degrees temp now, as a result they are being used for storage.
-Bad weather: Recalada pilots was closed today, April 29th at 0015 hours and remains that way. Two intense low pressure areas are building up strong storms. One slightly south of the mouth of the River Plate and another over the Central South Atlantic. It is reported that both have gusts of over 50 knots in the central areas. Vessels crossing from Cape of Good Hope are reporting delays.
-Bahia Blanca: The grain surveyors’ union are still keeping a “work to rule” and will only attend vessels in normal working hours. Monday to Friday 0700/1900 hrs. Saturday 0700/1300 hrs.
-Necochea: The port remains closed since yesterday April 28th at 2035 hrs due to high waves and strong winds.
